May 31, 2022 – Swirltex President & Founder, Peter Christou, attended the Canadian Shale Water Management Exhibition and Conference. He presented a paper titled “A Spin on Oil Water Filtration.” This produced water treatment paper emphasized the importance of membrane filtration in oil and gas, enhanced with Swirltex’s patented process. Robert Budianto, Swirltex’s Chief Executive Officer, and Shah Bhaidani, Business Development Lead were also in attendance. Swirltex has garnered interest in produced water treatment, with more projects in the oil and gas industry coming.
The conference had several industry experts in attendance specializing in a variety of oil and gas water treatment options. Swirltex presented buoyancy-enhanced membrane filtration for produced water treatment. The Swirltex process filters oil water more efficiently compared to conventional membranes. Our process filters out TSS, iron, bacteria, and oil & grease with an exemplary efficiency rate. Although other filtration technologies can separate oil & gas to some extent, the Swirltex technology surpasses with several benefits.
“Not all forms of crossflow in tubular membranes are equal. A spiral tangential crossflow provides up to 10 times the shear force compared to parallel crossflow at the same velocity,” Christou explained. The annular flow in Swirltex’s process prevents contaminants from touching the sides of the membrane, reducing membrane fouling. The manipulation of buoyancy succeeds in the oil and gas industry, because membranes are necessary for efficient oily wastewater treatment. With the evolution of ultrafiltration technology, produced water treatment in the oil and gas industry is growing. Rather than produced water disposal, companies are starting to seek out frac water treatment.
Christou’s presentation announced Swirltex’s partnership with ARC Resources, as promising sign for the future of produced water recycling. Oilfield produced water is a major issue in the energy industry, and leaders are turning to clean technology looking for a sustainable solution with a low environmental impact. Swirltex’s facilitation of wastewater reuse shows exemplary results with a produced water analysis provided to the client directly themselves.
